Lent

    Lent - presentation

Lent, also called Pristan, is part of the old Maribor city center, stretching along the Drava river from the marketplace at the Justice Tower to the Water Tower. Once, rafts and small ships landed here, carrying wood from the Pohorje and Koroška forests.

The city walls were built in the 14th century. The Justice Tower was turned into a citadel during the 16th century and obtained its present form around the year 1830. Once the center of trade and shipping in the city, the Drava shore and Lent have now been converted into a popular strolling area where many interesting events take place.

The best known among them is certainly the summer Lent festival, which turns the city into a bustling center of cultural and social activities. Lent is also known for the old vine that has become a symbol of Maribor – the city of wine and grapevines.

With an age of over 400 years it is registered in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest vine in the world.
