Žiri

Žiri lies in the Žiri valley, at the juncture of the Gorenjska, Notranjska and Primorska regions.The municipality contains many karstic springs, caves and a lake. One of the few natural mercury sources in Slovenia can be found at Podklanec. The famous Rupnik line – a system of fortifications built by the Yugoslavian army on the border between the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the Kingdom of Italy – also passes through the municipality. During the year, many sporting and other events are held in the town.
