The Šempeter –Vrtojba municipality covers the far eastern part of the Gorica plain, right next to the Italian border close to Italian Gorica. Here, the Vrtojbensko-Biljenski hills give way to a fertile plain shaped by the Soča and Vipava rivers. Many cultural landmarks such as the Coroni mansion, the Maffei manor, churches and old wells can be found in the area.
