The Ivančna Gorica municipality lies halfway between Ljubljana and Novo mesto. Several archeological discoveries at Vir and a Roman milestone speak of the area's historical importance. Josip Jurčič, the prolific Slovenian writer, was born nearby. This is the home of the white monks, residents of the old monastery at Stična.
