Peca - presentation

Peca is the highest mountain in the Slovenian Koroška part of the Karavanke mountain range. The highest point of the mountain, Kordeževa glava (2126m) rises above a high plateau.

Peca is mostly composed of Triassic limestone, making it suitable for rare plant types such as najmanjši jeglič, alpska zlatica and karavanška ovsika.                                                                                                                              

Near the Peca mountain hut, you can also find the cave of King Matjaž, a famous figure from Slovenian folk tales.       

A bronze statue of the king stands inside the cave.
