The Praetorian palace in Koper - presentation
The Praetorian palace is the central architectural monument in Koper, giving the city its distinctive image. The building obtained its present form in the mid-15th century when semicircular renaissance windows were built into the main facade and the upper part of the palace was expanded.
Originally used for official city purposes, it later became the seat of Venetian podestàs (chief magistrates) and captains. Its facade is covered with stone signs, statues and coats of arms.
