The picturesque, alpine-formed U-shaped alpine valley lies at the bottom of the Ponc mountain range.

The rolling valley floor is covered by moraines and scree, and above it stretches a mixture of forests and meadows.

Planica is world-renowned for its ski jumps, where international competitions in ski jumping and ski flying take place every year.

The valley is criss-crossed by walking paths and, during the winter, ski run trails.
