Castle Olimje - presentation

The Olimje castle is a symmetrical Renaissance building with four wings and impressive round towers. The Paulinian Order later found refuge in the castle, so a single-nave church of St. Mary's Ascension and a chapel of St. Francis were added. Monks converted the lower rooms of the western tower into one of the first pharmacies in this part of Europe.

The Paulinian pharmacy is now open to visitors (who can buy healing items) and is decorated with pictures depicting healing scenes. Since 1990, the monastery has been the home of the Minorite fathers.

Other than the church and pharmacy, the castle building also contains a permanent exhibition about the bishop A. M. Slomšek
