Kočevje is the economic and cultural center of Kočevska, a land of sprawling forests, unspoiled nature, primeval forest reserves, rich flora and fauna, numerous caves and lakes. The area has a special history, as it was left alone for a very long time – considered to be an inaccessible virgin forest. Because of the geographical inaccessibility and remoteness, the traditional customs, clothes and speech of the area have been kept very much alive.
