Mengeš lies at the base of Gobavica. In the northwest, it is bordered by the amazing chain of the Kamnik Alps, the Karavanke and the Julian Alps. In the southeast, it gives way to the Mengeš plain. The town became popular in the 18th century due to its location at several major crossroads. It was also known for different straw products. The most impressive local sights include the church of St. Michael, the Stare castle and Castle Jablje. A famous Slovenian, Janez Trdina, was born here. The municipality has a long tradition of events such as Michael's fair, Pod mengeško marelo and others. Hiking trails, a recreational trail and a sports park attract fans of recreation.
