Izlake lies in the heart of Slovenia, among the hills of Zasavje in the Zagorje ob Savi municipality. The town was first mentioned in connection with the Medija castle, where the famous Carniolan polyhistorian Janez Vajkard Valvasor spent his youth. The tomb of the Valvasor family is located inside the chapel by the castle. There is a thermal spring located nearby, and its water is used at the thermal baths of the Medijske toplice spa.
