The Ig municipality lies barely 10 kilometers from Ljubljana, at the edge of the Ljubljana moor at the northern foot of Krim and Mokrc (1058 m). This area is well known for the world's oldest culture which dates back over 6000 years. Besides canoes, the most impressive archeological discovery is a finely decorated baked clay pot called ženski idol (female idol). The most famous natural landmark is the Iški vintgar canyon.
