Horjul lies in the middle of the Horjul valley, 14 kilometers west of Ljubljana. Karstic caves and sinkholes dot the landscape, and the highest hills offer amazing views of Triglav and the Alps on one side and the Ljubljana moor on the other. Horjul is beginning to draw an increasing amount of tourists, especially due to its hiking and walking possibilities. Hikers can take advantage of two tourist farms at Korena. Many old traditions remain alive today: miklavževanje (St. Nicholas's celebration), pustovanje (Carnival), žegnanje, ježevanje, šranganje, corn shelling, teritev and others.
