Traffic and transportation, Getting to Slovenia

Slovenia is well-connected with neighbouring countries by train. You can get here using direct trains from all adjacent countries (Italy, Austria, Hungary ancd Croatia) as well as from Germany, Switzerland, Yugoslavia and Macedonia.
The following international trains run through Slovenia:

  • EC Eurocity Mimara, connecting Munich (Germany) and Zagreb (Croatia)
  • IC Croatia: Zagreb – Ljubljana - Vienna
  • IC Emona: Rijeka – Ljubljana – Vienna
  • IC Venecia Expres: Venice – Ljubljana – Zagreb – Budapest
  • IC Drava: Venice – Ljubljana - Budapest
  • IC Kras from Venice
  • IC Arena from Pulj
  • Simplon Expres from Geneva
  • the Bled train from Villach

The IC Intercity trains are the most popular, as they are fast, comfortable and cheap. Sleeper trains go to Vienna and Munich.
