The Kobarid museum was founded in 1990 with the purpose of presenting Kobarid's rich history, especially the events on the Isonzo front between May 1915 and November 1917. It is a historical, war-themed museum with an anti-war message. It focuses on the »little« people forced into the horrors of war, knowing that neither side was the good or the evil one.
Most of the permanent exhibitions detail the mountainous, northern part of the Isonzo front and the famous battle of Kobarid – the twelfth battle of the Isonzo, when the German and Austro-Hungarian forces pushed the Italians back all the way to the Piava river. These events forever inscribed the names "KOBARID, CAPORETTO, KARFREIT" onto the maps.
