Ptuj

Ptuj, one of Slovenia's most picturesque cities, is a veritable stone chronicle with thousands of years of history. Its first chapter was written in the Stone age. Ptuj's image is shaped by architecturally fascinating buildings: the Dominican and Minorite monastery, the Ptuj castle (whose present appearance is a result of centuries of modifications and additions) and the Borl and Štatenberk castles not far from the city. Because of the vineyards covering the nearby Slovenske gorice and Haloze hills, the Ptuj wine cellar has been converting grapes into high-quality wines for centuries. The cellarmen follow traditional methods passed down from ancient times. Thermal waters of the Ptuj spa help regenerate the body and soul. Throughout the year, the city offers a varied selection of events and festivals. Visitors can also visit a museum, take a balloon ride, play tennis, go cycling, take a walk or enjoy many other activities.
