Ljubljana

Ljubljana is the political, economic, scientific and cultural center of Slovenia. Its geographical location is unique, as the inhabitants can go skiing in the high mountains and swimming in the sea all on the same day. Ljubljana is adorned by a number of amazing cultural monuments. From the Prešeren monument, it's only a few steps across the Tromostovje bridge to the old city center, squeezed between the Castle hill and the Ljubljanica river. A string of small picturesque squares, surrounded by colourful facades, inspire visitors. The city square with Rotovž and the famous Robb Fountain is considered by many to be the most beautiful baroque creation in Europe. Plečnik's Tromostovje (the Triple Bridge) is one of Ljubljana's most recognizable symbols. The medieval fortress above the Castle hill in the middle of Ljubljana offers a magnificent view of the entire city, its surrounding area and the nearby Kamniško-Savinjske Alps. The Castle hill with its park is also a popular destination for short trips, as it offers a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. During the summer, the castle hosts many different events and festivals. During the night, its magical lighting creates a beautiful curtain of light above the city.
