Quick presentation - The Štajerska region- savinjskaTHE SAVINJA VALLEY
In the heart of the mountains, in the wonderful Logarska Valley the Savinja River comes to light in the Rinka Waterfall, joining the towns in the Savinja Valley. The Museum Vrbovec from Nazarije shows the heritage of forestry and wood making, in the florist park Mozirski gaj there are millions of flowers blossoming from spring to autumn, and in Vransko the Museum of Motor Cycles is worth visiting; near Polzela you will find the mansion and park Šenek. In Šempeter the former Roman way left behind the remains of a Roman necropolis, whereas the Cave Pekel reveals the underworld beauties of the Savinja Valley. The symbol of the Lower Savinja Valley is hop. The customs linked to this precious plant have been preserved until today. The Hop Museum, the hop way and the traditional event "Hmeljarski likof" draw numerous visitors to the "valley of the green gold" - Žalec. Under the rule of the mighty Princes of Celje the town Celje made its name, which can boast numerous well-preserved antique, middle age and later remains, set into a modern urban environment. The mighty upper and lower castle, churches and the city walls bear witness of a former "second Troy". The history of Celje and its broader surroundings is presented in the collections of the Regional Museum, whereas the children can visit the children's museum Hermanov brlog. The town at the banks of Savinja is known throughout Europe for its long tradition of fairs. Only about 10 km to the south of Savinja lies Laško. The warm springs in this region were familiar to Romans already, and the Laško beer, brewed ever since the year 1825 is well-known to every visitor of Slovenia. The traditional beer celebrating event Pivo in cvetje has the greatest reputation in this regard. THE ŠALEŠKA VALLEY Under an ancient castle in the Šaleška Valley, the town Velenje developed. The green-blue surface of the Lake of Velenje, Škalsko and Turistično Lakes is a challenge to the lovers of boating, sailing and fishing. Velenje is Pika's place with the biggest international festival for children; it is a town of culture, sports and joyful traditions. In the greenness of the Šaleška Valley over Šoštanj the thermal baths Topolšica are situated, which are characterised by a great number of sunny days and a fresh but mild mountain climate.
KOZJANSKO AND OBSOTELJE The Sotla and Bistrica rivers, a variety of steep mountain streams, brooks, water springs, the sediment lehnjak, waterfalls, pools, gravel river banks, as well as the variable vegetal and animal world put this landscape into a broader European environmental protection perspective. This natural pearl is protected by the Regional Park Kozjansko. Its characteristic cultured landscape image is embellished by farmsteads, top ecclesiastical art, the holy mountain Svete gore as the oldest pilgrim place in Slovenia, the monastic buildings of Olimje with the Pavlin pharmacy and chocolate workshop, the old medieval squares and the castes Podsreda and Podčetrtek. The nature paths, learning paths, cycle tracks and wine roads provide opportunities for discovering, exploring and relaxation. The architectural and cultural heritage of the region Obsotelje, on the other hand, is preserved in the Open-air Museum Rogatec. The harmony of nature gave the waters of this area extraordinary healing powers, which are exploited with care in the thermal baths Olimia and in the oldest Slovenian health resort Rogaška Slatina. Near Slovenske Konjice there is one of the noblest houses of its time, Žička kartuzija, the oldest Carthusian monastery in Europe.
