Quick presentation - The Prekmurje region The mysterious endlessness of the plains beyond the Mura River, wrapped in the morning mist, and the warm hospitality will charm every visitor of this outermost part of Slovenia. This is a land of numerous river bends, river standstills and ponds, thermal springs and vast corn fields. The rich animal world creates a unique primeval impression. A typical image of Prekmurje is the stork. A nest of this long-legged bird is a pride for each place. Some time ago, there were numerous floating mills on the Mura River.Out of the hundreds today only Babičev Mill inVerželj has been preserved; during the last years that in Ižakovci is also worth the visit, where the tradition of büjranje on the Mura River is being revived again.
Around the famous Island of Love, some legends have been circulating. During the carnival season the nation's playfulness and the appreciation of old traditions, such as borovo gostüvanje, come to light. The place Beltinci is well-known for its long years of rich folklore tradition, which is being preserved by the annual Folklore Festival, unique in Slovenia. The land of the hills – Goričko hides numerous pearls and covers almost half of Prekmurje. A lot of those pearls can be seen in the Regional Park Goričko .. On the ridge over Gračko and Radovski potok there is a mighty mansion Grad, which with its 365 rooms is the biggest castle in Slovenia. The healthiness of the Prekmurje region are its friendly people and the intact nature , as well as healing waters and health resorts.. This presents Prekmurje in its best tourist light. The Bukovniško Lake is a true treasure of the miraculous power of nature – it possesses energies with relaxing, calming and revitalising powers. The centre of Pomurje is Murska Sobota, moved aside from the Mura River into the middle of the Ravensko Field The spirit of the past is hidden in the Castle of Murska Sobota with a baroque portal, and the rich history of the land is shown in the Regional Museum of Murska Sobota..
You can detect the unusual attraction of the Prekmurje landscape on one of the numerous Pomurje cycle tracks and pathways for tourists or climb up to the chapel of Sv. Trojica on the top of Lendavske gorice. Lendava is the most eastern Slovenian town; there is an abundance of friendliness and hospitality also in this bilingual area. To conclude, the traveller will surely like to taste the characteristic Prekurje sweet dish "prekmurska gibanica" and a glass of domestic sparkling wine that is slowly making its way into the big world.
