Municipality Cerklje |
 |
The Cerklje na Gorenjskem municipality covers the northeastern part of the Ljubljana basin, where the Kamniško-Savinjske Alps begin. There were once twelve medieval castles in the area, but only Castle Strmol with its park has survived to this day. In 1238, the patriarchs of Aquileia founded the first Dominican nunnery in Velesovo, though only the eastern part of the once impressive structure has survived to this day. When Krvavec is mentioned, most Slovenians think of exciting skiing and winter adventures… but Krvavec also has a warm, hiking side which can be seen during the spring, summer and autumn.
