The Straža municipality
lies by the Krka river, between Dolenjske Toplice and Novo mesto. The town that
the municipality is named after lies below Straška gora, a mountain covered
with vineyards and cottages. The most famous building in the town is the church
of St. Thomas. Typical riverside vegetation grows along the Krka river, giving
the landscape an idyllic beauty typical of the Dolenjska countryside. The most
excitement can be had in September, when the traditional Straška jesen event is
held.
