Komen

While crossing Kras, your attention will surely be drawn to Komen, which lies in the center of the Komen Kras, and the karstic villages such as Volčji Grad, Štanjel and others. The most famous village is certainly Štanjel with its stone houses on the hillside. With a 700-year history, Komen is now the cultural and economic center of the municipality. Between the two world wars, Komen became a famous tourist center where people from Trieste, Tarvisio and even Venice came for a vacation or weekend trip. The gentle climate has also allowed it to thrive as a healing center.
