Idrija

Idrija lies inside a basin in the middle of the Idrija hills. As the oldest Slovenian mining town, its development was closely linked to the mercury mine, and the city's 500-year mining traditions are still alive today. The Idrija City Museum, the picturesque Renaissance Geweerkenegg castle and the tourist mine all display the rich history of the city. Of course, visitors to Idrija simply cannot miss the famous Idrija lace.
