Krakovski forest

Natural sights, Krško - Zasavsko - posavska

Between the base of the Posavsko hribovje hills and the Krka river stretches the largest lowland flood oak forest in Slovenia. In the heart of the forest is a well-preserved old growth forest with English oaks as old as 300 years and reaching heights up to 40 meters. The area is a home to many rare birds, endangered amphibians and an interesting array of plants in the undergrowth, making it an ecological treasure of international significance. This forest was measured in the beginning of the previous century by forestry engineer Josip Ressel, best known as the inventor of the boat propellor (which was first tested on the Krka river).
