Triglav

Natural sights, Bohinj - The Gorenjska region

As early as the 19th century, mountaineers covered the Triglav mountain chain (which includes Slovenia's highest peak, Triglav – 2864m) with mountain paths and huts, the oldest being the hut in Vrata (built in 1895). The Triglav northern rock face is the symbol of Slovenian alpinism and remains extremely popular to this day. It is considered to be one of the mightiest alpine rock faces, with the greatest height difference being about 1200 meters. The western part, nicknamed the »Sphinx« by mountaineers, is especially steep and demanding. There are many possible starting points for an ascent to Triglav, and all the paths are properly marked and protected.
