Lake Bohinj

Natural sights, Bohinj - The Gorenjska region

The Bohinj area is an image of the typical Alpine landscape, full of idyllic mountain pastures and plateaus reflected in the clear water of Lake Bohinj. The country's largest lake is 4100 meters long, 1200 meters wide and 45 meters deep. Many different plant and animal species have found a place of their own in the lake. The clear water is attractive for swimmers or rowers; and boats, canoes or kayaks can be borrowed at boat houses on the shore. The main surface tributary is the Savica river, which begins at the picturesque waterfall of the same name, beneath the Komarča mountain. Bohinj, known as the pearl of the Julian Alps, is an excellent starting point for exploration of the Triglav national park.
