The Roman necropolis archaeological park in Šempeter in the valley of the Savinja river is considered to be one of the most important archaeological monuments in Slovenia. Over 600 items of archaeological significance and over 100 family tombs. The large tombs made of Pohorje marble are especially impressive, as they are covered with carvings of hunting and plants. The dead are depicted in relief or sculpture. The most famous tomb is that of the Prisciani family, covered with reliefs of the four seasons and depictions of the story »Iphigeneia in Tauris«.
