Metlika lies at the foot of the southern Gorjanci slopes, packed between the Obrh and Bojica
valleys. Old streets and squares, middle class houses, interesting facades, cast iron balcony fences, beautifully carved doors and many obeležja on buildings are only a few of the sights you can notice with a careful eye. Today, the Metlika castle houses the Museum of Bela Krajina and the Slovenian Firefighting Museum. In the castle park just outside the castle entrance, visitors are greeted by statues of important men from Bela Krajina. In spring, Metlika comes alive with the Vinska vigrad (»Wine spring«) festival, and during the summer many events take place at the castle as part of the 'Pridi zvečer na grad' (»Come to the castle in the evening«) festival.
