The Maritime Museum in Piran collects, studies and displays items connected with the history of

the Slovenian coast and with maritime economic activities. Some of the highlights of the museum include the archaeological collection, fishing collection, exhibitions of the Austro-Hungarian Navy and the Navy of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and a special section dedicated to salt production. Another collection shows the Slovenian fleet from the 14th century to the end of the second World War. It contains documents, paintings, ship models and expertly crafted, richly detailed models of Austrian and Venetian ships from the 18th century. The museum also maintains the House of Tona (»Tonina hiša« - a typical example of an old Primorska farm house) and the Salt house in the Sečovlje salt pans.
