The National Museum Cultural sights, Ljubljana - Central Slovenia The magnificent neorenaissance building that today houses the National Museum was built in 1885 as the Regional museum of Kranjska. The stairway in front of the entrance is adorned with four allegorical figures: Art, History, Natural Science and Work. The allegories on the entrance hall ceiling were painted by Jurij and Janez Šubič. The museum collects archaeological findings, works of art, coins, books, geological specimens and Slovenian flora and fauna. The most valuable exhibits in the museum are Zois' mineralogical collection, the mammoth skeleton, the bronze situla from Vače and the wooden boat from the Ljubljana Moor.
